Tal día como hoy, cerca de 1585, nació en París la pintora barroca franco-flamenca Isabella Francken.

Perteneció a una familia de artistas flamencos procedentes de Amberes con una larga tradición. Fue hija del pintor Hieronimus Francken I (1540-1610) y de su segunda esposa, la francesa Françoise Miraille (¿-c.1631). Isabella fue sobrina de los pintores Frans Francken I (1542-1616) y Ambrosius Francken I (1544-1618) y sus primos Hieronymus Francken II (1578-1623), Frans Francken II (1581-1642) y Ambrosius Francken II (1590-1632) fueron también pintores.

Su padre se trasladó a Francia en 1566 para trabajar en la decoración del Palacio de Fontainebleau y en 1572 se instaló definitivamente en París como pintor de cámara en la corte de Enrique IV de Francia, sin dejar de viajar a Flandes regularmente.

Se piensa que Isabella Francken se formó y trabajó en el taller paterno.

En 1600 contrajo matrimonio con un militar francés llamado Gervais Senturion (¿-c.1610). Tras quedarse viuda, el 20 de enero de 1614 dio a luz a una niña llamada Elisabeth que fue hija ilegítima del pintor flamenco Frans Pourbus el Joven (1569-1622), quien residía en París desde 1609.

Su única obra firmada hasta hoy está datada en 1631, así que suponemos que murió después de esa fecha.

On this day, circa 1585, the Franco-Flemish Baroque painter Isabella Francken was born in Paris.

She belonged to an extensive and highly influential family of Flemish artists originally from Antwerp. She was the daughter of the painter Hieronimus Francken I (1540–1610) and his second wife, the Frenchwoman Françoise Miraille (d. circa 1631). Through her family lineage, Isabella was the niece of the painters Frans Francken I (1542–1616) and Ambrosius Francken I (1544–1618), and her cousins Hieronymus Francken II (1578–1623), Frans Francken II (1581–1642), and Ambrosius Francken II (1590–1632) were also noted painters.

Her father had moved to France in 1566 to work on the decorative program of the Palace of Fontainebleau. By 1572, he settled permanently in Paris as a court painter to King Henry IV of France, while continuing to travel regularly to Flanders. It is highly probable that Isabella Francken received her artistic training and worked directly within her father's busy workshop.

In 1600, she married a French military officer named Gervais Senturion (d. circa 1610). Following her widowhood, on 20 January 1614, she gave birth to a daughter named Elisabeth. The child was the illegitimate daughter of the famous Flemish portraitist Frans Pourbus the Younger (1569–1622), who had been residing and working in Paris since 1609.

To date, her only known signed artwork is dated 1631, indicating that she passed away sometime after this year.

Within the database of the RKD (Netherlands Institute for Art History), Isabella Francken is officially registered as a genre and landscape painter who was professionally active in Paris from the year 1600 onward.
