Fue criada en una familia de pintores holandeses, su abuelo fue el pintor barroco Pieter Hermansz Verelst (1618-1688). El padre de Adriana, Herman Verelst (1641-1699), y sus tíos Simon Pietersz Verelst (1644-c.1710), John Verelst (1648-1679) y William Vereslt (1651-1702), fueron los maestros que la instruyeron a ella y a sus tres hermanos: Lodvick Verelst (1668-1704), John Vereslt (c.1670-1734) y Michael Verelst (c.1675-1752).
La madre de Adriana fue una mujer veneciana llamada Cecilia Fend, casada con Verelst el 6 de diciembre de 1667 en Ámsterdam.
Cuando Adriana contaba tres años de edad, la familia se mudó a Londres y allí establecieron su taller. En Inglaterra fue donde Adriana Verelst desarrolló toda su carrera, especializada en el retrato académico y clásico.
Sus cuadros son un amplio repertorio de la élite aristócrata y noble que vivió en Inglaterra a principios del siglo XVIII, representados siguiendo un canon idealizado al gusto de la sociedad cortesana de la época. Todos estos retratos son un reflejo de la moda preciosista del momento, en los que destacan las refinadas armonías de color, así como la delicadeza en la pincelada y el detallismo de los ornamentos.
Adriana era ya una pintora consolidada y con una buena clientela cuando contrajo matrimonio a los 34 años el 4 de junio de 1717 con un viudo llamado Richard Baker. El matrimonio se separó cuatro meses más tarde y hubo litigios legales porque su marido exigió adueñarse de los bienes compartidos.

She was born circa 1683.
She was raised in a family of Dutch painters; her grandfather was the Baroque artist Pieter Hermansz Verelst (1618–1688). Adriana’s father, Herman Verelst (1641–1699), and her uncles Simon Pietersz Verelst (1644–c. 1710), John Verelst (1648–1679), and William Verelst (1651–1702), were the masters who trained her and her three brothers: Lodvick Verelst (1668–1704), John Verelst (c. 1670–1734), and Michael Verelst (c. 1675–1752). Adriana's mother was a Venetian woman named Cecilia Fend, who had married Verelst on 6 December, 1667, in Amsterdam.
When Adriana was three years old, the family relocated to London, where they established their workshop. It was in England where Adriana Verelst developed her entire career, specializing in academic and classical portraiture.
Her paintings comprise an extensive repertoire of the aristocratic and noble elite living in England during the early 18th century, depicted according to an idealized canon tailored to the courtly taste of the era. All these portraits reflect the precious fashion of the period, outstanding for their refined color harmonies, delicate brushwork, and detailed ornamentation.
Adriana was already an established painter with a solid clientele when, at the age of 34, she married a widower named Richard Baker on 4 June, 1717. The couple separated four months later, leading to legal litigation as her husband demanded ownership of their shared assets.
